Vital to sustainable development is sustainable energy. Our current energy system is failing people and the planet. Substantial policy guidance, capacity building, innovative approaches and public investment are necessary to tackle climate change and poverty. Part of Fair ideas’ weekend-long exploration of sustainable solutions, Saturday 16th June will open up a space for researchers and practitioners to discuss best policy solutions like Feed-in tariffs for the global south, energy delivery models as well as low carbon pathways. Plenary sessions in the morning and afternoon will frame this day around access to energy. The aim is to foster a debate around key sustainable energy and universal access issues that will be happening during Rio+20 – including the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative – but their implications will reach far beyond 2012.
