India is the world's largest producer of tamarind fruit. Tamarind has a huge domestic and overseas market and commands a good proce from end-consumers. However, primary producers and collectors get very low prices and most of the fruit's value is captured by middlemen. This report provides information from the field on governance constraints affecting tamarind in Central India and recommendations for action.
