Beyond inaccurate crisis narratives: meeting the water and sanitation MDGs

Gordon McGranahan

There is still a cavernous gap between the 'pro-poor' rhetoric of water crisis and response, and the vested interests and competing prioritites that continue to drive developments in the water sector, internationally as well as locally.

This makes it all the more important that we take the opportunities provided by the Millennium Development Goals to help realign water sector priorities, and secure more support for those local initiatives most likely to improve water and sanitary conditions for the hundreds of millions of currently deprived rural and urban households.
