Welcome to the 9th issue of Pastoral Civil Society. This being our first publication of the year 2005, we would like to wish all our partners, collaborators, and the general readership of the Newsletter a happy, prosperous and eventful year. The Newsletter is a reflection of our commitment not only to keep you abreast with the latest developments in the programme, but also in such a way that you will find appealing and easily readable. During the 1st quarter, work continued on the design of the Generic Training Course on Pastoralism and Policy in East Africa. The Programme Manager also paid a visit to pastoral organizations in Kampala and Western Uganda as part of the networking component of the programme. We continued with the Institutional Governance and Learning Group in Tanzania to build the capacity of pastoral civil society organizations and received draft policy booklets from Haki Kazi. We have also continued to participate in various activities of partners within the region. As we continue striving to expand the scope of the newsletter to include items which might be general in nature, but which are relevant to pastoral issues, we appeal to you to write to, e-mail or telephone us on issues which you think are of interest. Remember, this is your forum, make use of it!
