This edition includes a special theme section entitled Learning and teaching participation. It draws on an international workshop hosted by the Institute of Development Studies, UK, which highlighted experiences of teaching and learning participation in universities and other institutions of higher learning such as research institutes and training centres for professionals.

This issue features 11 articles describing experiences of teaching and learning participation in higher education settings. The articles focus on participatory modes and programmes of teaching and learning, university-community linkages, and the different forms these linkages can take, and the role of learning networks.

This issue also includes a general section, with the following items:

A paper about Democs (Deliberate Meetings of Citizens) which were developed to make it easier for people to share and express views on important issues.

A paper reporting on the experiences of the National Association for NGOs (NANGO) in Zimbabwe in teaching participation to NGOs.

The Tips for Trainers section has a short extract about the use of role-play in participation, taken from the Communication and Power resource pack produced by Reflect.
