This paper features results from a world wide survey of over 200 cases of markets for forest environmental services. It reviews benefits and highlights particular characteristics of four kinds of markets for forest environmental services: carbon services, watershed services, biodiversity services and landscape values. An evaluation of the steps and characteristics necessary for these markets to benefit the poor is included.
