Practical guide on how to mobilise a society's resources to plan and implement national sustainable development strategies. It shows how such strategies need to to be a participatory process of planning and action if economic, ecological and social objectives are to be achieved in a balanced and integrated fashion. It is based on extensive review and analysis of the cumulative experiences of past national strategic planning exercises in over 100 countries around the world. It also draws on a a series of regional workshops organised by IUCN in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe attended by experts and practitioners in strategy preparation.
