Moving Slowly and Reaching Far: Institutionalising participatory planning for child-centred community development: Participatory planning in Redd Barna Uganda: Reflections and guidelines.

I Guijt

Report/paper, 106 pages

Like many organisations working in development, Redd Barna Uganda is seeking to develop more participatory forms of community development that recognise, analyse and address intra-communal differences and human resource development. The awareness of the contribution that children themselves and a child-centred perspective on sustainable development lies at the heart of their work. This report describes Redd Barna’s experiences to date with the use of PRAP to support more child-centred community development. It discusses how the organisation has evolved its five phase approach, the challenges involved, how to deal with NGO/CBO/government partnerships. It is written as an internal document for RBU and should be of interest to other organisations keen to move beyond a simplistic use of PRA. This report is a sequel to ‘it is the young trees that make a thick forest’.
