Eplains how both environmentalists and development specialists have given far too little attention to the impact of the environment on children. It describes how millions of children die unnecessarily each year from environmental causes while tens of millions suffer ill-health or injury. It discusses why promoting a safe and healthy environment for children is rarely given a high priority by governments and aid agencies. It also includes chapters on sustainable development and on a community-based approach to addressing environmental problems, including how children themselves should be involved in such approaches. This book was commissioned by UNICEF and written by a multidisciplinary team that included specialists in child development, infant and maternal health, environmental health, economics and community development.
