Practical advice for new tourist guides
This pocket book is designed to cover basic guiding skills for those just starting out as a tourist guide, with a particular focus on new guides in Uganda. It is based on knowledge from experienced guides in the field and provides practical advice on preparing for and taking visitors on trails. It focuses on what guides need to know, what works well, and why.
Gorilla-tracking tourist activities in Uganda's Bwindi national park generate critical revenue for conservation, but local benefits from tourism are limited and the illegal use of the park's resources continues. This project developed and tested new community-based tourism products and services to improve local skills and job opportunities, and the long-term prospects for the park.
