MMSD+10: Reflecting on a decade of mining and sustainable development
Discussion paper, 36 pages
2012 marked 10 years since the completion of the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) initiative. Its findings were game-changing for the sector, and mining CEOs of the day committed to act on its agenda as a robust and credible way to maximise the sector’s contribution to sustainable development.
So where are we, 10 years on? How far have we travelled towards a sustainable and responsible mineral industry?
This paper is intended as a ‘conversation starter’ – providing an initial assessment of the mining and minerals sector’s achievements against the MMSD agenda and opening up further discussion.
This publication forms part of IIED’s work to identify pathways towards inclusive and responsible mining.
The Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development Project (MMSD) was a research project looking at how the mining and minerals sector could contribute to the global transition to sustainable development.
