As households in the developing world become more feminised through the breakdown of marriages, the impact of civil war and HIV/AIDS, secure access to land by women is crucial. This paper looks at property formalisation efforts in Bolivia and Laos where despite legal and policy contexts which support equal access to titling for men and women, women still face significant social, political and cultural constraints to acquiring rights to land.
