Towards education for nomads: community perspectives in Kenya
This booklet captures the voices and concerns of Kenyan pastoralists about education. It was produced as part of a broader action research programme that is guiding the Government of Kenya’s strategy for nomadic education. The purpose of the booklet is to share the views of pastoralists with education policy-makers and practitioners, particularly those in Kenya who are in a position to act on them. After a brief summary of the consultation process used to gather these views, the main part of the text summarises pastoralists’ thoughts about the current education system in Kenya and the ways in which it could adapt to better serve their needs.
A DVD to accompany the text can be found inside the back cover.

IIED temporarily hosted the design phase of the Education for Nomads programme between October 2009 and September 2010. This was while the institutional arrangements for its management were transferred from SOS Sahel UK to the Ministry of State for the Development of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands in Kenya.
