With the upcoming UNFCCC climate conference, COP28, scheduled for November and December 2023, the world faces a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change.

This event will host the inaugural Global Stocktake, designed to assess the global response to our current climate crisis. Early indicators already demonstrate the alarming distance between our current progress and the ambitious goals set by the Paris Agreement.

The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated; unless we intensify our efforts, global temperatures will continue to rise, with devastating consequences.

Uniting leaders, thinkers and innovators

This year D&C Days 2023 will bring together leaders, thinkers and innovators in-person from across the globe – united by the challenge of advancing climate action and effecting change that is marred by the collective slow action of too many initiatives and institutions.

D&C Days will create a safe space for the uncomfortable yet necessary conversations about the challenges of inaction and shifting the status quo.

The event will spotlight climate actions across mitigation, adaptation/resilience, loss and damage, climate justice and climate finance. D&C Days 2023 will create an environment where bold initiatives and game-changing solutions can confront the obstacles of inertia and slow progress head-on.

Partners in this year’s D&C Days will spearhead conversations in three critical areas:

1. Decolonising climate finance

The persistent slow action of initiatives and institutions has hindered climate finance access for those who need it most. Available funding remains fragmented, sectoral and constrained, especially for the most vulnerable countries.

D&C Days 2023 will explore ways to shift power and resources to local organisations working on the frontlines and disrupt the current systems that fail to deliver climate action and finance at local levels.

2. Equitable climate partnerships

While discussions about locally led climate solutions have been ongoing, their implementation has been characterised by unequal partnerships that concentrate power and resources in the global North.

D&C Days 2023 will delve into how partnerships can be strengthened to be truly inclusive, equitable and empowering, sharing risks and accelerating climate action. It will also explore the knowledge and practice the global North can learn from the global South in meaningful and equitable ways.

3. Accountability for the Paris goals

Economic disparities rooted in colonial histories persist, allowing powerful companies in sectors such as finance and energy to dictate the course of climate action.

D&C Days 2023 will examine how actors across governments, the private sector, philanthropies, civil society organisations, businesses and academia can be held accountable to take positive steps within their organisations to address climate impacts and reduce the risk and vulnerability of those most affected by the climate crisis.

Challenging existing thinking

Within each focus area, participants at D&C Days 2023 will address uncomfortable truths, tackle significant questions, seek practical solutions and work together to ensure that no one is left behind.

This dynamic format encourages dialogue on a range of issues that bridge policy, knowledge and practice. Innovative approaches will inspire participants to interact, challenge existing thinking and generate new ideas.

D&C Days 2023 welcomes everyone at the forefront of sustainable development and climate agendas, including practitioners, NGOs, grassroots organisation representatives, national climate leaders and policymakers at all levels.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of the global movement to combat climate change and foster equitable development. Join us at D&C Days 2023 and be a part of the change we all need!
