Mid-Term Reviews. South Asia and West Africa Components of the Action Research Program: Democratising the Governance of Food Systems - Citizens Rethinking Food and Agricultural Research for the Public Good

The IIED-coordinated action research programme "Democratising the Governance of Food Systems - Citizens Rethinking Food and Agricultural Research for the Public Good" uses a decentralised and bottom-up process to enable small-scale farmers and other citizens to (a) decide what type of agricultural research needs to be done to ensure their food sovereignty and (b) plan how to push for change in policies and practice.

The programme began formally in November 2007 and is now established in four regions, with one country acting as host for each region: West Africa (Mali), South Asia (India), West Asia (Iran) and the Andean region in Latin America (Bolivia/Peru).

The mid-term reviews considered the programme in two regions: West Africa (Citizen's Space for Democratic Deliberation - ECID) and South Asia (Alliance for Democratising Agricultural Research South Asia - ADARSA). This report begins with Summary Highlights from both reviews and includes Executive Summaries from the full West Africa and South Asia reports.
