~The Forest Governance Learning Group (FGLG) is an initiative across seven African and three Asian countries, working towards better governance in forestry. From September 2006 to 2009, FGLG Vietnam focused how future state community forest management (CFM) policy could contribute to the alleviation of poverty.

This report outlines and assesses the progress of the three phases of this part of the project: firstly how FGLG Vietnam gained a clearer understanding of the CFM situation in selected provinces; secondly, mutual learning between members and local communities; and thirdly, documenting and disseminating the lessons learned.

The outputs of each phase are described, along with their contribution to the key governance issues, including the identification and sharing of good practice examples; the promotion of legal recognition of community-managed forests; and the emphasis on multi-stakeholder participation in the processes of forest management.
