Institutionalising partcipation in East African research institutes (PLA Notes 48)
Chris Opondo, Ann Stroud, Laura German, Jurgen Hagmann
Journal article
The African Highlands Initiative is a collaboration between East African research institutes to encourage NGOs and smallholder farmers to develop innovative techniques to improve resource management. To help this they have facilitated participation in these groups, with varying degrees of success. The authors highlight some of the challenges that they faced, and lessons they have learnt.
Participatory Learning and Action is the world’s leading informal journal on participatory approaches. Guest editors provide up-to-the minute accounts of participatory approaches in specific fields. Since 1987, PLA has provided a forum for participatory practitioners – community workers, activists and researchers – to share experiences, reflections and methodological innovations with others, providing a genuine ‘voice from the field’.
