Participatory quantification in the water and sanitation sector (PLA Notes 47)

Introducing the Methodology for Participation Assessment (MPA), a form of participatory research that builds on other methods by collecting quantitative information, rather than qualitative, which allows for statistical analysis and comparisons between separate data sets. Using an international sanitation project as an example, this paper explores the benefits of this methodology.

Participatory Learning and Action is the world’s leading informal journal on participatory approaches. Guest editors provide up-to-the minute accounts of participatory approaches in specific fields. Since 1987, PLA has provided a forum for participatory practitioners – community workers, activists and researchers – to share experiences, reflections and methodological innovations with others, providing a genuine ‘voice from the field’.
