This report examines 57 company-community forestry partnerships in 23 countries. Whilst some so-called partnerships are thinly veiled rip-offs or attempts to spruce up a company image, others have produced significant returns to both local livelihoods and company profits. This report draws out lessons and outlines a common set of principles and success factors that contribute to building partnerships that profit communities and companies. Effective steps centre on getting the right government frameworks, brokering roles, and raising the bargaining power of communities so that they have an equal stake.
