Strategic Environmental Assessment: A rapidly evolving approach

This paper provides an overview of the international status of strategic environmental assesment, introduces some key literature, examines perspectives on the role and focus of SEA, and discusses the rationale and benefits of the approach. It describes international experience of applying SEA processes in both developed and developing countries, Eastern Europe and development assistance agencies, and considers parallel processees that are closely aligned to and/or have relevance to emerging SEA techniques: environmental scenarios, sustainable development strategy processes, etc.
